Drone Operation Definitions:
Headless mode: (from Knowledge Base) is basically a method implemented on a drone that allows you to give up worrying about orientation altogether.
The functioning of headless mode is pretty simple. The only pre-requisite is that before taking off, you’re required to position the drone in such a way that its front is your front. Since yaw (the left stick on a Mode 2 controller) anyway doesn’t have anything to do with orientation (left is left and right is right all the time, regardless of where your drone is pointing at), it is how the drone reacts to rudder (the right stick on a Mode 2 controller) that changes.
When you take off with the drone pointing in the front, algorithms inside of the drone’s micro-controller ensure that any directional change is compensated. In other words, even when you turn your drone 90 degrees to the left, it’ll still go forward when you push the rudder forward (on a non-headless mode drone, this would make the drone go left).
Multi Axis Gyro and Accelerometer: (from Quora) They are a key part of how a quadcopter can stay stable and fly. Think of the drone as being a different plate balancing on top of a very, very tall stick. The accelerometer tells the drone how fast it is falling off the stick, and the gyro tells the drone which way it is tipping over. The drone then applies just the right amount of power to the motors spinning the rotors to balance the drone. All of this happens several hundred times a second.
To dive into detail- the gyro and accelerometer are 2 of 3 core pieces of information (the other being the motor speeds) that are fed back in a negative feedback loop which prevents the quadrotor from rapidly going into undampened oscillations.
One Key Return Function: Gives the ability with a single key input for your Drone to return to the location where it took off from.
